Workmanship and Product Warranties Explained
A long warranty headline can describe only one component. Establish who promises what, for how long, under which conditions and who pays for diagnosis, labour and access.

Product warranty
Usually provided by the manufacturer for defects in named equipment. Registration, approved installation, servicing or operating conditions may apply.
Performance warranty
Often promises a minimum level of output or retained capacity over time. It is not necessarily a promise that the whole installation will achieve the sales forecast.
Workmanship warranty
Covers the installer’s work, such as mounting, wiring, pipework or commissioning. Ask whether it is insurance-backed if the installer ceases trading.
